ABOUT ME

Hello everyone! I'm Tamara- the face, mind, hands and creative heart of TASPE. My journey as a potter started when I bought a pottery wheel in 2018. Actually it all started when I was 6 years old, clay and my passion for it kept reappearing in my life over and over again. In college I almost switched majors the third year to study ceramics. I passed it up for several reasons. After 10 years working in a variety of sectors - NGOs, technical writer, waitress, real estate and finally teacher, I jumped into the void to fulfill my dream. Life went in circles to get to my destination, but in the end you get there. My hobby has always been art, but dreaming of touching a potter's wheel and buying one changed my life. Watching videos of great potters. “Someday I will be able to do that and I will do whatever it takes to get there.”

That year I decided to quit my job and go to Bali for half a year - recalibrate everything. I scheduled myself a ceramics class in Ubud. Two weeks turned into 4 months in that magical workshop. From there, the rest is history. The second day of class I felt a love, clarity and determination I had never felt before - I was going to be a potter, a professional potter. I call it the day of my Epiphany. This time it was. Many hours of practice, years of turning every day, getting up early thinking about clay, intensive potter's wheel classes, reading, trying and failing - creating pieces for the boxes in the garage for years (comparing myself to the greats and telling myself “Not yet”). I finally got the courage to go out and sell and I saw that my pottery was well liked by customers and I was getting compliments from everyone! It wasn't going to be easy, but I wasn't going to back down from my dream of making a living from this and I would keep working until I got it. Six years after that first pottery wheel and many years after enjoying my first little clay package as a child, here I am and will continue to be with more demand for my pieces and work than I could have ever imagined. Self-taught with a dream, to professional potter. TASPE will continue to create and evolve.
